Overview of Support offered

Taster sessions designed specifically to be delivered as an 8 week programme or accessed singly or in multiples for cohort.

Each taster will focus on one topic and various external speakers and facilitators will take the group through sessions which will be interactive, informative and practical.

Week 1 – Money Management – How do you manage the money that you have coming in whilst being able to pay all of your known outgoings? Plus a session facilitated by the Illegal Money Lending Team (Loan Sharks) regarding the dangers of being sucked into illegal loans. There will be handouts from this session.

Week 2 – Food Hygiene Course – Lots of practical information given to raise understanding of the importance of hygiene in the kitchen (both at home and work). You will get a qualification at the end of the session.

Week 3 – Healthy Eating – This session is taking place in a commercial café environment at Top Church Training (learners will be transported by minibus) and takes place on a Tuesday. Attendees will be able to prepare a main course and pudding of their choice and then to eat this afterwards. They will also learn how important it is to eat healthily and how to “cook from fresh” and not rely on processed food.

Week 4 – Sexual Health – How to understand the importance of healthy sexual relationships and the implications of “getting it wrong”! There will be a variety of speakers explaining the consequences of getting it wrong and how you can avoid this happening to you. There will be handouts from this session.

Week 5 – How to present the best side of you to the wider world – This session will be interactive and will broach the subject of keeping your environment clean and the importance of it both for your personal health and for everyone else around you! Our facilitator will give you advice on how to keep yourself healthy and fresh and also the importance of keeping your clothes and personal possessions clean as well.

Week 6 – Basic First Aid Certificate – Come along and find out the basics of First Aid should you need it – how to put a bandage on – what happens when someone is unconscious (what do you do to help)? Also if you are a parent, what do you need to know if a baby is choking? You will get a qualification at the end of the session.

Week 7 – Interview Preparation – So you are confident to try your luck at an interview – this session will give you practical tips on how to make a good impression and will give you the confidence to do well!

Week 8 – Not straight into work? – What about volunteering? As a group you will access volunteering projects that will help you understand what is out there and how you can get involved to make a difference to your community.

There will be a variety of giveaways given out at the end of the course for all those who have attended.
