Overview of Support offered

This is a short 6 week course that aims to introduce you to British Sign language skills. We look at how to improve your communication skills when interacting with deaf people and those hard of hearing. It will look at positive body language and how we express our thoughts and feelings through facial expressions. We focus on teaching you the basic signs for communicating:

  • The alphabet – finger spell your name
  • Introducing yourself and basic conversation
  • Family
  • Numbers and colours
  • Transport
  • Where you live

Groups are small and friendly with plenty of support from staff if needed. We will go through the basic skills you need for interaction with no worries about passing or failing or sitting an exam. This course is about getting to grips with the basics, so you can move on to higher level accredited courses if you want to or just feel more confident using these skills in everyday life.
