Overview of Support offered

A set of short sessions to give participants a chance to film and edit. Mentees will be given the chance to get hands on with filming equipment and editing software to create and develop videos as they learn more about the world of filming. The course will involve workshops and projects tailored to be fun and rewarding while improving filming and editing skills throughout. It’s ideal for anyone who has an interest in creating video content. Participants will be partnered up with a mentor to act as a friendly face and key point of contact throughout and the course is suitable on a one-to- one basis. The course lasts for 8 days and covers a range of tasks including:

  • Planning and storyboarding,
  • Setting up film equipment and filming,
  • Editing, design and post production,
  • An individual project with support from an experienced
developer (this can be flexible but we can encourage
    development of a video CV).

The course is best suited to individual learners and takes place at our creative media offices in Wolverhampton which are filled with designers, video producers and web developers – it’s the perfect environment to skill up in the world of video production and there’s no need to have any prior experience.

Outcomes expected

Participants will learn about how to create and present video content whilst learning a range of technical skills and building confidence in a group environment. There is a naturally expectation that participants will develop soft skills – team building, communication, confidence as well as English and IT. The placement–styled nature of the programme encourages participants to develop a routine, get acclimatised to a work environment and build confidence working with teams and contributing to projects. Following completion of the programme, options for both in-house and ASDAN accreditation are available and successful participants will be offered a guaranteed interview which (for the right candidates) may allow progression to an apprenticeship involving video production.
